Gentle guitar playing Gentle guitar and harmonica playing Guitar and harmonica playing ♪ Through a gallery window ♪ ♪ I spot her beret ♪ ♪ And the bright red lipstick ♪ ♪ That she wears on ♪ special occasions ♪ ♪ And she catches my eye ♪ ♪ And I throw her a wave ♪ ♪ And I motion I'll be in ♪ ♪ As soon as I ♪ finish my cigarette ♪ ♪ Just as soon as I finish ♪ ♪ My cigarette ♪ Guitar and harmonica playing ♪ In the painting ♪ of a farmhouse ♪ ♪ I watch as she ♪ loses her calm ♪ ♪ And she swears that ♪ the blue in the sky ♪ ♪ Was ripped right ♪ out of her childhood ♪ ♪ And I feel her hand ♪ slip from my grip ♪ ♪ As she drifts ♪ back in to Vermont ♪ ♪ And I reach out to stop her ♪ ♪ But she's already gone ♪ ♪ All ♪ ♪ Ready gone ♪ Guitar and harmonica playing Guitar and harmonica playing Guitar and harmonica playing Guitar and harmonica playing ♪ Now I go every Thursday ♪ ♪ And I stand in the ♪ place she once stood ♪ ♪ And I stare at the painting ♪ ♪ And I swear that ♪ I see her look out ♪ ♪ And I'd call out her name ♪ ♪ But I know it ♪ won't do any good ♪ ♪ Well, how could she know ♪ ♪ If I never told ♪ ♪ I never told ♪ ♪ How I felt ♪ Guitar and harmonica playing Guitar and harmonica playing "Through A Gallery Window", the idea of it is something I got from a Julio Cortazar short story, where a woman disappears into a painting, and the narrator returns to the gallery every once in a while to see if he can get spot her again.
And I just liked that concept and kinda dug in with it, and turned it into kind of a story about losing a lover.
