Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipmy name is Sean Allen herd I was raised in Southeastern Massachusetts moved briefly to Portland Oregon before I landed in Milwaukee Wisconsin I came to Milwaukee it was kind of on a whim uh I had a friend who I used to play music with back in Boston who uh had recently moved here and I was just kind of looking for someplace else to try I wanted to try a smaller City he uh made it sound like a great town and so I just kind of threw everything in a case and flew out [Music] here why don't you dust off that my friend I hope always kind of wrote songs and didn't really know what to do with them and basically when I moved out to Portland A friend gave me a guitar and I started to teach myself and uh became a singer songwriter I guess you'd say armonica was actually my first instrument I wasn't uh really allowed to play an instrument when I was growing up so I kind of snuck a harmonica around in my pocket and uh would just kind of blow at every chance I got [Music] because I tend to like the older stuff I do consider myself more of a folk singer there's a lot of different genres and influences that blend into things with time and experience I think today it would definitely fall under the Americana category I guess my sound comes from um back in high school I was listening to some more modern singer songwriters and I've always just been really curious and into the history so I started digging into their past what did they listen to and I just kind of went back and back to the roots of folk and blues music music has just always called to me I feel like the way I write my songs you know they're uh they're definitely Story songs there's a narrative there and she swears that the blue in the sky was ripped right out of her child I really like to look through the lenses of different characters I kind of want to blend that space between song writing and literature I hope that uh the audience comes away thinking that not only did they hear a song but they also uh learned a [Music] story go
