Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- Hello, my name is Jason S. Yi, and I am a multidisciplinary artist, and I'm gonna give you a tour of my studio.
So this place used to be a tannery.
My studio is approximately 1100 square feet.
It's a fairly long space with lots of windows on one side.
I make a lot of different work.
I do sculptural work, and drawing, and painting, and also installation environmental-based work.
This back wall is mainly used for a storage space for my older works.
So it is archived in this and protected through multi-layers of plastic and boxes.
And I have a curtain covering it to keep it somewhat protected from the dust and any sort of debris.
And since I do so many different types of artwork, I need a lot of tools at my disposal.
You may ask like, why do I have so many drills and multiple hammers like this?
It's partly because that I also have some assistants working and I need to work as efficiently as possible with my assistants.
So they need tools, the same type of tools that I may be using.
That's why I have two, or three, or four, or five drills so we can all work together at the same time.
I am here often, I'm here four to five days a week, and I need a space that's comfortable.
I need a space where I can get away and relax, read a book, or listen to music.
So this is definitely a place to relax.
We're in the final section, an area of my studio, and it goes from dirty to the cleanest.
And this area is what I would consider the cleanest.
Therefore, I have some electronics in here, like computers, and also clean drawings that I work on.
I also do photographic work, so I have a large format printer, so I can actually print out large-scale photographs if the idea warrants it.
And that is my studio.
